Session 3: Sustainability & Power Impacts of Wireless Cellular Networks
With the continuing insatiable increase in demand for mobile data, network operators and their vendor partners are looking for new solutions due to increased power needs in 5G networks. While energy consumption per unit of data (watts per bit) are much lower in 5G networks than for 4G LTE, power consumption can be higher due to the greater amount of data delivered. What is the wireless cellular industry doing to ensure that power costs are contained and the ongoing delivery of data remains on a sustainable pathway? This roundtable will discuss: |
– Operator cost and vendor opportunities – Power-efficiency in data centers – Consumer-based efficiencies – Efficiency technologies – Climate impacts and stewardship |
