Antel, with support from Nokia, successfully completed the installation of the first 5G commercial network in Latin America. The deployment of this network began in the department of Maldonado, in the area of Barra de Maldonado, where the first 5G radio bases are operational and ready to provide service. Ultra high speeds and low latency of 5G could be checked at the launch event. The new 5G technology allows having a connection capacity of up to one million devices per km2, navigating at speeds greater than 1 Gbps, with an immediate network response.
Once again, Antel is positioned as a pioneer and global reference in innovation and infrastructure deployment, being the first company to enable the first commercial 5G network in Latin America. This milestone is part of a long journey made in technological advances in fixed internet services with Fiber Optics as well as in mobile phones with its 3G, LTE and LTE + networks.
Andrés Tolosa, President of Antel, said:
“We are very proud to be the first company in Latin America to enable a 5G network with commercial service. This achievement is part of a strong commitment to the development of the industry, entertainment and a great impetus for applications. We are a global reference in the deployment of infrastructure, such as our Fiber Optic network throughout the country, pioneers in offering the latest advances in mobile networks. This great step to 5G, with the support of Nokia, completes the current technological ecosystem. Once again, we confirm our technological leadership in the region. “
