On July 27, 2022, the House of Representatives passed the Spectrum Innovation Act (HR 7624), which specifies a process for auctioning a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum between 3100 megahertz (MHz) and 3540 MHz for nonfederal use, shared federal and nonfederal use, or a combination of those uses.
The act extends the authority of the Federal Communications Commission to conduct spectrum auctions, which are important for the release of spectrum for wireless commercial uses.
5G Americas responded to the news with the following:
“5G Americas commends the House of Representatives in extending the Federal Communications Commission spectrum auction authority. Spectrum for commercial wireless use is important in maintaining American economic competitiveness and technological innovation. We urge the Senate to swiftly take action, so that this important resource can continue to be put to best use for all Americans.”
