On October 29, 2025, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) took an important step toward expanding America’s mid-band spectrum resources for 5G and 6G. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr circulated a proposal for the Commission to seek public comment on a draft Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that would explore repurposing spectrum in the 3.98–4.2 GHz range. If adopted, the NPRM would solicit input from stakeholders on how to maximize use of this valuable Upper C-Band spectrum for next-generation wireless services while ensuring safe coexistence with adjacent bands.
